apt-watch-backend software package provides Applet that monitors apt sources for upgrades (backend slave), you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install apt-watch-backend
apt-watch-backend is installed in your system.
Make ensure the apt-watch-backend package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep apt-watch-backend *
You will get with apt-watch-backend package name, version, architecture and description in a table
